Former MRAA Director Passes Away

Boca Grande, January 4, 2011 ~ Tandy Counce, owner of Counce Marine in Memphis, Tennessee passed away on January 2, 2011 at his home in Germantown, Tennessee.

Counce had owned & operated Counce Marine since 1962. He had a long and illustrious career in the recreational boating industry. He served several terms on the Board of Directors of MRAA, was the first president of the Memphis Boat Show, a member of the Tennessee Marine Dealers Association, a member of the Boat Dealers Alliance and he also served on a number of advisory boards and councils for various boat and engine manufacturers.

“Tandy will always be remembered for his open and direct observations on the boating industry, especially where it concerned dealers” said Phil Keeter, MRAA President. “He was a true southern gentleman and a real asset to recreational boating and will definitely be missed”.

Counce’s real passions were boating, spending most weekends and vacations on area lakes, and international traveling. He and his wife visited seventy six (76) countries on six (6) continents.

Counce is survived by his wife, Sue and two sons, Michael & Eric, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Counce was a member of the Colonial Park United Methodist Church.

Sevices will be held on Wednesday January 5th at 1:00PM at the Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue. The family requests memorials be sent to the Colonial Park UMC or the Alzheimer Assn: 326 Ellsworth St.; Memphis, TN 38111
