A new video, Follow Safe Seating Protocols: How to Sit and Swim Safely While Boating, launched during National Safe Boating Week and before Memorial Day weekend. It helps captains and their guests have fun riding on the boat and in playing the water.
From seating protocols to risky behaviors to carbon monoxide (CO) safety and more, Video Host and Discover Boating Ambassador Monica Puentes guides viewers through these top safe-boating tips and stars as the video’s safety educator. She offers eight total tips.
- Avoid jumping off docks, moving boats and hanging off the boat’s side/back.
- When swimming, avoid boats in motion, running engines and exhaust.
- Read all boat warning labels and the owner’s manual to follow operational safety.
- Maintain all fuel-burning engines and appliances.
- Swim and play away from engine exhaust.
- Never block exhaust outlets.
- Regularly test and replace all CO detectors on the boat.
- Dock 20 feet or more from boats with running generators or engines.
